I Concur formed in Leeds at the tail end of 2006 thanks to a shared love of American indie, slowcore and post rock - bands such as The National, Low, Wilco and Mogwai feature high on their list of influences. Comprised of Tim Hann (vocals/guitar), James Brunger (drums/vocals), Toby Page (bass) and Chris Woolford (guitar), the band’s first practices created a set of songs based on Hann’s abstract style of story telling. Tracks such as ‘Decimal Places’, written about the fraudulent research claims of the South Korean stem cell scientist Hwang Woo-suk, and ‘Exits Are Blockades’, which focused on the extinction of the prehistoric crocodile, came out of these initial song writing sessions. Their first gig, a low key affair at The Packhorse, Leeds, took place on 15th January 2007. The following May the band released their debut EP ‘Whatever it’s going to be’. After a high profile support with Scottish noise makers The Twilight Sad, and positive reviews from the often hard to please Drowned in Sound, they found themselves in the final of Leeds’ annual Futuresound competition. Their performance merited them with an opening slot for The Hold Steady in front of a 600 capacity sell-out crowd at the city’s Cockpit venue. I Concur’s ‘Decimal Places’ was then added to the latest compilation from renowned indie label Dance To The Radio which, entitled ‘Out of the Woods and Tress’, featured such acts as Howling Bells, Snowden, The Pigeon Detectives and the label’s founding band iForward, Russia! Before the end of the year I Concur went on their first UK tour, supported The Duke Spirit and made an appearance at the Brainwash Festival on the same bill as Youthmovies. The band received a place on the ‘Brew Records - Volume 1’ compilation and were then signed by the same label for their debut single, ‘Lucky Jack / Build Around Me’, which was released on 10th March ’08. Following positive reviews from the NME and plays on Radio 1, the band were invited down to the world-famous Maida Vale studios to record a session for Huw Stephens’ In New Music We Trust show which was aired in April '08. In the summer of '08 the band were picked by Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq to play on the BBC Introducing stage at the Leeds and Reading Festivals. The band then released their second single, Oblige, produced by Tom Woodhead, vocalist in iForward, Russia!, in October '08. I Concur are now working on the debut album which is due to be released in 2009. The band's official website is www.iconcur.co.uk. Read more on Last.fm.
