ESCATS is a Costa Rican rock pop band. Luis Alonso Naranjo (Piano, lead vocal); Kin Rivera Jr (Drums) and Nelson Segura (Bass). Their name comes from the term "scat" singing, a form of vocal improvisation in jazz music employing non-sense syllables. ESCATS is characterised by their facility in interpreting several musical genres, including jazz, pop, rock, Latin music, and their fusions. Together, they have worked on albums with many artists, including Arnoldo Castillo, Tatiana Gomez, Marta Fonseca, Allan Guzman, Tito Oses, Fusion Caribe, among others. Kin Rivera Jr. was nominated to 2007 Latin Grammy with the album "Solo Paz", he is a SABIAN cymbals, VIC FIRTH drumsticks and PEACE drums endorsee. Nelson is a Magma strings endorsee. Luis Alonso is also the principal singer for the international project TEAM VIP, where he works with musicians such as Arturo Sandoval, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ed Calle, Geovanny Hidalgo, among others, Kin Rivera Jr. also appears in this project. They have opened concerts for Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, La Quinta Estación, Sin Bandera, Kudai, Chayanne, Cristian Castro´s concerts in Costa Rica, and have also played with Venezuelan singer-songwriter Ilan Chester and Luis Enrique. Escats was signed by Sony BMG in September 2007 and in January 24th, 2008 their first album "Para quien quiera que seas, donde quiera que estes" received a Gold disc award from Sony BMG for more than 7,000 CDs sellings in Costa Rica.
