Ginger Reyes (also known as Ginger Sling) is an American rock musician. She is a solo artist, but also was a bassist of California pop-punk band the Halo Friendlies and touring bassist for The Smashing Pumpkins. Early days Reyes has been playing in bands and writing songs since her freshman year in High School. Her first band was [[The Israelites[1]]], a Christian Traditional ska Band from La Cresenta California. She was a member of California all girl pop-punk band the Halo Friendlies, replacing Cheryl Hecht on guitar. The band has been active since 1998 and been touring United States multiple times, including Vans Warped Tour, touring with Good Charlotte and Funeral for a Friend. The band also toured UK five times and has done two USO tours after 9/11 playing shows in Bosnia, Kosovo and Germany. The Halo Friendlies released an album for EMI's Tooth and Nail Records and recorded a song for the Freaky Friday soundtrack in 2003. They also received a gold record for the sale of over 500,000 copies of the soundtrack. From 2001-2002 Reyes was also the bass player for the band Lo Ball where she had the opportunity to work with John Porter (The Smiths, Morrissey) , Michael Beinhorn (Hole, Soundgarden) and Jeff Russo (Tonic , Low Stars). She has also performed live with producer Linda Perry and fellow solo artist Sierra Swan. Throughout 2004-2006, Reyes has recorded her own music under moniker Ginger Sling and released a 5 song EP called "The Room" and has released a group of demos called the "Laguna Beach Demos". Her total download sales exceed the 12,000 mark and continue to sell through iTunes and most every digital music store online. Her music has been featured on MTV's The Real World, Making the Band, Pimp My Ride, Meet the Barkers and Laguna Beach. She also recorded a song for the Disney feature film, Sky High that was released in theaters in the US in July of 2005. Her cover of the song, "Can't Stop the World" is featured on the soundtrack. The Smashing Pumpkins On April 6, 2007 rock rumor webzine Buddyhead reported that Ginger Reyes is the new bass guitarist for The Smashing Pumpkins, replacing former bassists D'arcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf der Maur, in the new line-up along with Jeff Schroeder. It was confirmed she was a member of the band when they played their first show on May 22, 2007 at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France [1] and following London and American tour dates. She also played with the band at Live Earth on July 7, 2007 and at the CD release concert at the 9:30 Club in DC on July 10, 2007. Read more on Last.fm.
