Die Regierung

There are at least two band called "Die Regierung": One has been very influencial for the so called "Hamburger Schule" and was founded by Tillmann Rosmy in Essen around 1982. The band broke up after publishing four albums in 1995. Find out more at http://www.tilman-rossmy.de/diskoreg.htm The other on is an artist collective from Switzerland founded in 1992and still existing in2009. The Government“ /dieRegierung (Switzerland) The collective of artists, „dieRegierung“, follows the subversive track towards the goal to feel completely free making new music. “dieRegierung” are 5 men, handicapped mentally and physically and a “normal-handicaped” man, who live and work together since 1992. There is Hanspeter Dörig, Minister of Farming. Since his birth, he has been mentally handicapped and is suffering of cerebral disturbance. But behind his drums he moves absolutely free and doesn’t know any rhythm. He is the one, who lays the foundations of the band’s ability to make special improvisations. There is Franco Scagnet, Minister of Police Department. His handicap is being deaf together with being autistic. He only plays his vibraphone, whenever he thinks it would fit. There are almost no other musicians, being handicapped like Franco, who are on stage that often. There is Martin Baumer, Minister of Health. His handicap is called down-syndrom and since he was a child, he has been convinced originally coming from Mongolia. Therefore he is an expert of traditional Swiss Folkmusic and Freejazz. As an Ethno-Singer he plays the accordion and the trumpet. There is Roland Atherr, Minister of Indoor. He is mentally handicapped and loves his moustache. He plays the piano and the keyboard. Significant is his impressive deep voice when he sings and finds the tone. There is Massimo Schilling, Minister of Outdoor. He is mentally and physically handicapped. He plays the guitar. He swings the groove and likes playing electronic sounds. Where ever he is, people are talking a lot, too. Finally, there is Heinz Büchel, Captain of “dieRegierung”. He isn’t handicapped. He plays the double-bass and says: we listen and react more and more sensitively when playing music together. Since 1981 we have been living together as a big family. In 2005 we decided to do without financial help of our state. That means, making music is one part which is important for our living costs. Another part is entertaining guests in our “factory”, where we cook, serve and make music. Beside making music the members of “dieRegierung” are quite talented in painting pictures.
