Wax Audio, an audio producer and mashup artist from Australia, has released three politically themed cut & paste EP's known collectively as "The Mashed Media Trilogy". In 2007 he released Mashopols, a 10 track mashup / bootleg / bastard-pop / remix album. Since the beginning of 2008 Wax Audio has been working on a new mashup / sound-collage / ambient / documentary album using nothing but his personal archive of field recordings made throughout 2005/06 whilst travelling the world. Download the entire Wax Audio catalogue for free at: http://www.waxaudio.com.au/ The individual releases of The Mashed Media Trilogy are WMD ...And Other Distractions (2004), Mediacracy (2005) and Cut, Paste and Run (2007). These works were created using heavily edited soundbytes of media coverage relating to the war in Iraq (and elsewhere), re-contextualised dialogue from Australian, British and American politicians as well as countless other sources, all set to various musical styles. The trilogy is a humorous though often disturbing soundscape of our times, as represented by western worlds leaders and the news media. Mashopolos (2007) features the music of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Ray Parker Junior, The Bee Gees, Pink Floyd, Public Enemy, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Kate Bush, Prince, Panjabi MC, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Bjork and Massive Attack. Since the beginning of 2008 Wax Audio has been working on a follow-up to Mashopolos (called Mashopolos II - The Mashening). 9 Countries (2008) will be a mashup / sound-collage / ambient / documentary album using nothing but Wax Audio's personal archive of field recordings made throughout 2005/06 whilst travelling throughout Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Tibet, India and Greece. The extensive audio footage, captured on minidisc and meticulously archived, will serve as the entire sonic ingredients of the album to be released in late 2008. Read more on Last.fm.
