There were/are at least two bands named The Swiss Army. 1) An indie/emo band from Minneapolis Minnesota. 2) A post-rock band from Boston, Massachusets. 1) The Minneapolis band has released one album, Private Ambulance. They posted a message on their Myspace saying "We are dead. Stop asking us to play shows." in 2006. All plays on this last.fm page are by this band. 2) The Swiss Army is also a Boston based four-piece who some might describe, correctly or incorrectly, as "post-rock". Its members are Jason, Josh, and Justin, and Nazli guitar, bass, and drums, keys, respectively. At times tense and punchy, they owe as much to Fugazi and Jawbox as to the more spacious Do Make Say Think and Tortoise. They have been playing music together since Josh pulled double bass duties in Lee with Jason and The Migration Trap with Justin way back in 1998. Since then Jason went on to play in the vastly underrated Plotter while Josh and Justin played in the vastly overrated All Combinations, the demise of which occassioned the first Swiss Army practice one rainy night in April of ought-three. They rehearsed in Jason's now burned down Watertown basement. We had a pool table and two cats who answer to the names of Chicken and Beef. Now we just have each other, oh and two cats named chicken and beef. The Swiss Army played their first show in February of 2004. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boston -- The Swiss Army, 3, of Allston, died Jan. 20, 2006 at their Denby Street practice space in Allston after a long illness. Born in Watertown, the son of the late Lee, Plotter, and Migration Trap, Army was a Brighton resident for the last year and a former longtime resident of Watertown. A graduate of Howe U. Rock High School, they attended shows in Boston. The Swiss Army was retired from the New England Rock Academy Co. where they were employed for 36 years. Their greatest joy in life was the love of their guitars, drums, and keyboard. Besides Army's wife, Swiss leaves their children and their spouses, Tom Thumb & The Latter Day Saints of Providence R.I., Identified of Somerville, All Combinations of Cambridge, and an as yet unidentified dance band. Swiss was the father of Monera, who died in 1997. A funeral service will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 27, at 9 p.m., at PA's Lounge, 345 Somerville Ave Union Sq. Somerville, MA Burial will follow in St. Allston's Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to PA's Lounge. Thanks. We love you all. Jason, Josh, Justin, Nazli Read more on Last.fm.
