Military Wives were originally a British choir formed by Gareth Malone through the fourth series of the BBC TV series The Choir. Malone formed the choir at two British Military locations in Devon (Chivenor and Plymouth). He sought to enlist voices for an all-women choir – the wives and girlfriends of military personnel deployed to Afghanistan.[1] The climax of the television series was the performance of the Military Wives at The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 12 November 2011.[2][3] Their debut single, "Wherever You Are" was released on 19 December 2011 and became the 2011 UK Singles Chart Christmas number one.[4] Following this, further choirs were started and the UK number one album In My Dreams featured 5 choirs adding Portsmouth, CTCRM Lympstone and Catterick Garrison to the original choir. The Military Wives Choirs Foundation came into being to support the founding of Military Wives' choirs across the UK. £1 from the sale of each album goes to support the foundation and Military Wives' choirs now number 31 across the UK.
