With his debut single “Out Getting Ribs/ Has This Hit”, King Krule (formerly known as Zoo Kid, but still the musical alias of 21-year-old Archy Marshall, born August 24, 1994 in London, UK) announced himself as the startling voice of a new generation; his unexpectedly deep and mournful baritone tracing fissures of disappointment and disorientation to devastating effect. Comprised only of his stark vocals, guitar and searing lines such as “and I’m the only one believing/ there’s nothing to believe in”, it was a bleak but brilliant treatise on the inchoate frustration and fury of youth, rubbed raw and laid bare. On November 8, 2011, under his King Krule alias, he released a self-titled EP on True Panther Sounds. His music has been likened to Morrissey and Edwyn Collins. Stylistically he has been described as darkwave and is inspired by disparate influences such as Gene Vincent, Fela Kuti and The Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Archy also makes music under the moniker DJ JD Sports and Edgar The Beatmaker, the styles of which are significantly different than King Krule. On 9 December 2012, the BBC announced that he had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll. King Krule released his debut album 6 Feet Beneath the Moon on 24 August 2013. On 10 December 2015, King Krule released new hip hop orientated album A New Place 2 Drown under his birth name Archy Marshall. Read more on Last.fm.
