Born and raised in Podor, the small northernmost town in Senegal; King Ibu is a self-taught musician. His musical roots lie in the centuries old tradition of the Griots; West Africa’s oral and musical historians. His uplifting spiritual approach to storytelling and instrumentation creates an infectious backdrop of polyrhythm and bouncy grooves. Ibu sings in five languages and plays the complex African instrument known as the Tama (the talking drum). King Ibu has performed live with renowned recording artists that include Carlos Santana, The Wailers, Femi, Becaye Aw, Tim Weisberg and Steve Smith.
