African street performer turned singer/songwriter who, sadly, died (in 1990) shortly after being discovered. "Nua (whose name means "The People's Brother") has been blind since age two. As a child, he learned to play the Ghanaian thumb piano, and traveled extensively before settling in Accra in the mid-'60s. Nua was mostly a street musician, also performing at social functions, until 1980, when promoter Faisal Helwani encouraged him to try his hand in more formal performance contexts. In addition to his traditional Hausa songs, he has also been experimenting with more modern fusions. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide" Read more on Last.fm.
