Christy Azuma and Uppers International
Christy Azuma was a school teacher in Damango, Northern Ghana in the 1970's. She subsequently fronted the hugely succesful Afropop band Uppers International based in Bolga, the capital of the Upper Region of Ghana. With the demise of the Acheampong military regime, the government supported band ultimately broke up. Azuma left for the United States and settled in the Los Angeles area. It is not clear if she continued her music carreer. She died in California in the late 1980's reporfedly from cancer. Read more on Last.fm.
