John Albert Thomas

John began playing the piano at age 5, and began composing original music at age 12. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition from Samford University in 1995. Upon graduation, John moved to Memphis, TN, where he married his wife, Rebecca. They now have four children. John’s music is deeply rooted in classical music - especially Mozart – but it also reflects his early discovery of contemporary artists such as David Lanz, George Winston, Suzanne Ciani, Andreas Vollenweider, and Enya. The net result is a unique, thinly-layered style that consistently penetrates the emotions while awakening the mind. John’s song “Silver Lining” was featured in a short independent film that was nominated in the 2010 Swan Lake Moving Image and Music Awards in Germany. This song was included with other nominees in the solo piano compilation Acoustic Visions. John’s albums include the following: The Golden Road (1999) Daddy Daughter Dance (2007) Zuzu’s Petals (2009) Now I Sleep (2011) John recently finished a project called Now I Sleep in association with the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS) organization. He worked closely with ten families who have lost a pre-born or newborn baby to compose piano portraits that honor their memories. This album helps minister to families who suffer such a loss, and to photographers who work with NILMDTS to help capture memories for these families. Read more on Last.fm.
