There are three artists going under the name of 'Hitomi': 1) hitomi (古谷仁美 Furuya Hitomi), born January 26, 1976, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, record label owner and executive. In addition to having consistently been one of the most popular and successful musicians in Japan since her debut in 1994, hitomi is also acknowledged as one of the most influential figures in Japanese pop culture. Along with Utada Hikaru and Hamasaki Ayumi, hitomi has helped redefine and evolve the female Japanese pop singer, in the words of the writer Jay Rubin, "from a mere voice accompanied by music, to a full-fledged artist and performer, independent, creative, and credible." hitomi has recently given birth to her first child. After exciting fans by announcing the release of a new album, titled BIRTH, it was cancelled just days later, followed by hitomi herself posting a cryptic message on her blog that said "Bye bye! We shall meet again somewhere, OK?" However it has since been reported she is taking time off to spend time with her newborn, and will resume working in March. hitomi's discography includes hit releases "CANDY GIRL" (1995), "by myself" (1996), "BUSY NOW" (1997), LOVE 2000 (2000), MARIA (2000), "IS IT YOU?" (2001), "SAMURAI DRIVE" (2002), and "Japanese girl" (2005). 2) Hitomi Kuroishi (黒石ひとみ), a songwriter and composer who performed the ED song of Last Exile and featured most notably in Code Geass and its sequel, Code Geass R2. When she sings in her songs, the song is credited to “Hitomi”. 3) Hitomi is an independent Boston-area noise/musique concrete duo. Read more on Last.fm.
