"The women in my family are gifted musicians and voracious lovers of life. I am the fifth generation to carry on this tradition and feel it is my sacred duty to sing." In a vibrato reminiscent of the old Jazz world, swooping melodies, Kate-Bush inspired strings, and a swoon here and there, Crystal is the first to admit that she walks on the funny side of life. Influenced and inspired by artists like Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Queen, and Kate Bush Crystal's brand of vintage pop has been accepted as a breathe of fresh air among Nashville listeners. “As a child I was enthralled with musical theater,” Crystal says. She wrote her first musical when she was 8 and continued to write musicals through high school. “I think in show-tunes,” Crystal admits. “As a kid I wanted to be a Dutch milkmaid. Most of my songs were written about the hard life a Dutch milk maid, the tyranny against such folk, and the princes who would save us. Theatrics is a part of me and definately bleeds into my live show.” In 2008 Crystal wrote the material for her EP “The Touch of My Skin” while working as a pastry chef. “It is no wonder there are so many coffee and cake references in this EP,” Crystal laughs, “My entire world that year was coffee, cake, and funny, awkward moments.” Crystal recorded “The Touch of My Skin” with producer, Neilson Hubbard, at his Nashville studio, Mr. Lemons, in 2009. The Touch of My Skin was released in April of 2009. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
