There at least 2 bands under the bane Brain Eaters: 1 - Brain Eaters: Like their forebears Misfits and Samhain, mid-Eighties NYC death-rockers Brain Eaters combined the raunchy jolt of punk rock (often laced with gothic and metal tinges) with classic horror-movie titles and themes. Band History: The idea for the band began festering in the morbid mind of Joe Truck in the early spring of 1986. At the time, he was drumming with post-punks Burning Rome, following earlier stints as member of 1983 projects Tea for None and Twelfthnight, guitarist in Scarecrow (1983-84), vocalist of Chop Shop (1984-85), and co-producer of The Naked and the Dead (1985). However, the itch to get back in front of the microphone became too great, and Truck's unholy passion for the Misfits and Samhain was calling him to form a project in their vampiric vein. Recruiting teenage bass vixen Sarah "Scratch" Durham, spiky rhythm guitarist Cris Ix (aka Chris Geiser), and drummer Rob, the newly formed Brain Eaters recorded and released their first 7-inch EP "Crimson Nights" (also including "Night Must Fall" and the classic "Fiend Without a Face") in May 1986, months before they ever gigged. After a debut performance in September at CBGB as a quartet (with Truck on second guitar), Pete "Damien" Marshall from Samhain (also previously of Humpty Keg, The Whorelords, Genocide, and Mourning Noise) joined the band on lead guitar. Several additional autumn gigs at CBGB later, this lineup recorded the late '86 "No Room in Hell" maxi-EP (sadly, never released save for a remixed version of "Ballad of Arcane" on the 1987 "Sorority Sampler" compilation LP). Following a February 1987 show at Long Island's Batcave with Fahrenheit 451, the backing band left one by one. By summer '87 the only original member was Truck, and Brain Eaters morphed slowly into a glam-rock act, by 1988 changing their name to Rocket Angel. Truck (on bass and vocals) reunited with two fellow Chop Shop alumni in 1993-94 as a trio called Hellvis, releasing a 7-inch EP "The Frog" (1993, Fat Bastard Records), produced by Wharton Tiers. The band recorded a full-length album in 1994 with Tiers that remains unissued. In 1995, Truck formed trash-rockers Snake Charmers, whose discography includes 7-inches "The Gorgon" (1996, Shrunken Head) and "Nuthin for You" (1999, Shrunken Head), and full-length discs "Rock N Roll Deathwish" (1999, Sonic Tone) and "Drop Dead Blues" (2000, 20 Stone Blatt Records). Joe Truck achieved his greatest notoriety as a tattoo artist. Chris Geiser and Pete Marshall played together in Ditch Witch from 1988 through 1990. Marshall later played with Letch Patrol and Man Size Habit before joining Iggy Pop's backing band in 1996. 2- A Japanese hardcore band.
