Bola Abimbola

Bola Abimbola was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. His childhood was filled with singing and drumming in the traditions of the Yoruban and West African cultures. His debut solo album, “Silifa Bamijo” (1987), was a runaway success. It launched Bola’s professional career as a singer, songwriter, and producer. He has worked for many of Nigeria’s successful young artists, including Saheed Osupa, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Rasheed Ayinde and Shina Akani. In 1998, he released his second recording as a solo act, titled, “Buyanga”. It earned him the honors of “Artist of the Year” and “Best Video” at Nigeria’s Fame Awards in 1998. His talents also caught the attention of King Sunny Adé, who invited Bola to tour with him as a guest artist and backing vocalist.
