Bedtime For Toys

Like the five lion-shaped robots that combined to form Voltron, the animated giant sword-wielding superhero, Bedtime for Toys are five distinct musical talents that have come together as a force to be reckoned with. URB Magazine called it "...a celestial hybrid of electro, hip hop, pop and metal", while Rolling Stone Magazine found the band defied easy description and just simply named them one of the "Top 25 Bands on MySpace." No matter what you call them, they are a proverbial 'Dream Team' that creates a paint bomb of musical styles and shocks the status quo in a way maybe only last felt during the 80s purple reign of Prince and The Revolution. Originally hailing from the Koreatown area of Los Angeles, Bedtime for Toys features Marchelle on vocals; Toussaint on keyboards & rhymes; Sammy JC on guitar; Nashii on bass; and Kenan on drums. With a mix of girls and boys, ranging in race from black, white and "other", the band is rather visually alarming. However, their ability to translate such a mix of diverse personal backgrounds into their music seems to be the real key ingredient that makes their sound so fresh. At the front of this gang is Marchelle, a super-blonde stunner that destroys all stereotypes with a university degree in political theory and a passion for old-skool hip-hop, funk, and soul. Her right hand man is Toussaint, a music production genius that has remixed tracks for artists as far ranging as Wolfmother, Nelly Furtado, and Lil' Wayne. Sammy is the group's rabblerouser, a heavy metal guitar shredder that got his start as a Boston area breakdancer. Nashii is the band's international surprise, a globetrotting rock fox, born in Malaysia and raised in Scotland. While Kenan, also know as "The Young Phenom", has been spent his life surrounded by some of the greatest musicians in the world, being that he is the son of a member of Earth Wind & Fire. Recently, the intensely energetic Bedtime for Toys live show has attracted a significant following. The band has toured the US and UK and performed with such contemporaries as Moving Units, Diplo, Lady Sovereign, A-Trak, and Princess Superstar, among many others. Their recordings have also attracted quite a buzz, including collaborations with such cutting edge artists as Tom Tom Club, Har Mar Superstar, Le Tigre and Spank Rock. Meanwhile, PBS recently featured Bedtime for Toys in a documentary about what the pop music of the future might sound like. With such momentum behind them, Bedtime for Toys are currently recording a new album at a downtown art gallery in the Los Angeles Toy District. As long as their live shows and new music continue to make audiences, stereo systems, and walls shake, this is a toy story that won't be put to bed anytime soon.
