Formed in 1924 by Manoel Clarindo Biano and Benedito Clarindo Biano in brazilian sertão, the band is one of the oldest musical groups still in activity and one of the most tradicional bands of regional music in Brazil. All the youngest members of the group are sons and nephews of the founders of the band. The first album of Banda de Pífanos de Caruaru was released when the group travelled to Rio de Janeiro in 1971 to play some shows. The unique sound of the band was later discovered by some MPB artists like Gilberto Gil, that recorded "Pipoca Moderna" for his 1972 album "Expresso 2222".
