He also presents Zola 7, a television show named for him, on SABC 1. Born in the Soweto ghettos of Johannesburg, South Africa, Dlamini spent his formative years in one of the roughest and notorious ghettos around, Zola, hence his name. Unemployment, alcoholism, and single parent families are the norm in Zola. His father abandoned the family, leaving his mother to care for him and his older brother and sister. He performed the score and played a role in the Academy Award-winning film, Tsotsi and the movie Drum. "Kwaito kids are made from hunger, abuse, no father, violence & guns. Now as adults we must change the game for the better. Now we must change everything we are made from." - Zola 2. Zola is : Nuria (vocals), Gabi (guitar), Pablo (bass), Victoria (keyboards), Francesc (drums) and Albert (guitar). The band comes from Barcelona and after releasing two (celebrated) demos in 2002 released, in 2003,the first album called 'siete maletas'. from the jabalina site (www.jabalinamusica.com): "The band was born as a result the effort of - as usual - two people, Gabi and Nuria, and their impulse to create 'simple' pop music with the smart strategy of 'removing' elements instead of 'adding them', looking for the essence of natural things and melodies. The results have come up slowly, casually, or sometimes after some struggle, up to the point when Zola was something in the air, something new floating over all their songs. Their compositions show a subtle, delicate, even naïve style that makes their sound unmistakable. The sweet smell of country pop, el jazz o la bossa occasionally tinges the songs, a result of their longtime love for music." 3. http://www.facebook.com/zolazolazola Read more on Last.fm.
