Underground Mafia was a hip-hop group from Louisville, KY that existed during the late 80's/early 90's. Most, if not all the members, hailed from Shawnee High School and lived in Louisville's west end. They had some regional success w/ their song "Gangsta Walk". Their sound was very reminiscent of the late 80's/early 90's hip hop scene. Some of the samples used came from groups such as NWA, X-Clan, Eric B. & Rakim. Most of the Louisville residents who were hip hop heads were supporters of UM due to their shout outs to the most commonly known projects around the city at that time (Southwick(?), Cotterhomes (?), Beecher Terrace come to mind). They opened shows for many of the heavy weights of their era but were marred by controversy (they called out Newburg as being non-gangsta), as well as other events that kept them from achieving national success (haters, run ins w/ law in enforcement, bad management and other such rumors). It's rumored bad management and a horrible record deal was the reason for their demise. Read more on Last.fm.
