Manuel Augusto Martins Tristan da Silva (Lisbon , Portugal , 17 July 1927 - 10 January 1978 ), better known as Tristan da Silva, was a Portuguese fado singer. He started his career in 1937, only 10 years old at the Mondego Café in Lisbon. He was opposing the Salazar regime, but was never arrested for this, and his success has never been affected by his political beliefs. He went to Brazil in 1961 and lived there until 1965 when he returned to Portugal. During this period in South America, he perfomed in Bolivia , Chile , Paraguay , Argentina , Uruguay and Peru .
