There are at least three artists using the name Tiki: 1) Tiki is the solo recording name of New Zealander Tiki Taane, formerly of Salmonella Dub. Tiki (Ngati Maniapoto) has spent the last eleven years playing to the world primarily as the captivating frontman for successful NZ band Salmonella Dub. Doubling as an audio engineer for some of the country’s finest acts, Tiki has boosted shows, musical works and recordings worldwide with his unique gift for taking music into an innovative new realm. 2) Tiki (formerly Tiki McSwag) punched his way out of the womb with an explosion of swag. His swag leveled the Khmer Rouge and deflowered 89 of Osama's 99 virgins. Some say his swag was bestowed on him by Jesus, but more likely he has evolved from a really, really, swagged-out pterodactyl. If you look up into the sky, and it is a particularly beautiful sunny day... thank Tiki for re-igniting the sun and saving the entire human race... http://soundcloud.com/tikimcswag http://twitter.com/#!/TikiKamikaze 3) A new Hawaii-based hip-hop organization introduces itself with this powerful preview of things to come. Most of the individual artists on this compilation have their own albums coming -- Spookahuna and Big Teeze get top billing on a list of 16 acts. Teeze rates high in local music history as a member of the old Hi-Town DJs (the only Hawaii rappers to make one of the six major Billboard charts). He hits hard here with "808 Ho's," a song reminiscent of Jay-Z's "99 Problems" and explicit enough to warrant a parental advisory warning. The mood elsewhere ranges from romantic to "gangsta" as various artists expound on true love, their sexual prowess, marijuana and social problems in Hawaii. One track mocks another local rap organization, while another dismisses local pop remakes. www.tikientertainment.com www.tikidub.com Read more on Last.fm.
