The Savings and Loan

The Savings and Loan formed in Glasgow in 2004, playing songs touched by two of that city's obsessions: drink and religion. The core of the band is Martin Donnelly and Andrew Bush, chequered veterans of the Glasgow underground scene with bands such as Eska, De Rosa and The Sky At Night, augmented from time to time by a cluster of friends on strings, brass and pedal steel. Today I Need Light is their debut album, and follows the acclaimed self-released EP, included as a bonus download with the first 500 copies of this album. The record also follows two books published by Donnelly in 2009: Paler Aye, a collection of haiku, and Temporary Poems, a round-up of other miscellany. Donnelly has also been included in the seminal New Writing Scotland anthology, and has read by invitation at the popular writers’ evening, Discombobulate. Read more on Last.fm.
