Formed in late 2005, Chicago's Red Plastic Buddha developed a sound reminiscent of the best elements of late 60s British psychedelia, alternating between swirling sonic landscapes and catchy, melody driven pop. Like contemporaries The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Red Plastic Buddha has been plagued by frequent lineup changes. Despite these setbacks, band leader Timothy Ferguson (vocals/ bass) has kept the band steadily moving forward. 2007's debut Sunflower Sessions received critical praise and served as a worthy calling card to the band's full sound. In 2011 the band released All Out Revolution on their own Space Cat Records. Revolution served notice that the RPB was alive and well, and the record was named to many Best of 2011 lists. Sam Clark, of the blog Playground Misnomer, said of the band "this ensemble has the potential to stand on the front lines of this (psychedelic) genre". Time will tell if this is a prophetic statement, but several reviewers noted the progress the band showed between the two albums. The lineup of the band appears to have stabilized since releasing All Out Revolution, and a revitalized Red Plastic Buddha has been active in and around their Chicago base. New songs which have been showing up in live sets over the past year will surely be featured when the band returns to the studio in October 2012. Read more on Last.fm.
