The Hipstones

BIOGRAPHY “They might have forgotten it back in the USA but right here in Olde Sydney Town, the sweet soul sound that oozed out of artists as diverse as Smokey Robinson, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder and The Commodores is alive and well and positively dripping out of the grooves of The Hipstones” Michael Smith, Drum Media. Fronted by Mark Palmer (keys/lead vox) and Anthea White (lead vox), the duo formed their unique partnership in a high rise in the world’s most populous city, Tokyo, Japan. Tackling soul, funk, jazz and a little bit of rock, this Sydney 9 piece has a real knack for writing modern songs with a vintage feel. Internationally, The Hipstones shared the bill with the likes of Chaka Khan, Jamie Callum, and Frank McComb, at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, with a massive 100,000 festival attendees. Their Indonesia tour also included the Hard Rock Café in Bali. In a short space of time The Hipstones have made a big impression on the local scene performing at the NSW Wine Festivals Cellar Door event at Hyde Park, The Spirit of Soul Festival 2008, The 3rd Annual Sydney Funk & Soul Festival and shared the stage with Renee Geyer and the late great Jackie Orszaczky with his Budget Orchestra at The Studio (Sydney Opera House). The Hipstones performed at the "Human Nature" Tour after party dancing their feet off at a sensational show at Sydney's Will and Toby's. They have also supported both Jeff Duff and Jade MacRae shows. With sumptuous harmonies, exotic Middle Eastern sounds, soulful supple horn lines and the finest rhythm section in Sydney, The Hipstones breath fun, high energy of fresh air something new. This is a band that is flush with method and feeling, slinking and jamming through upbeat party songs, slower ballads, and smoother numbers that have a definite pop appeal to them.
