The Flatbellys are a young bluegrass band from Lansing, Michigan. Bursting onto the scene in May of 2008, they have quickly won the hearts and ears of the local acoustic communities, and have wisely spent their time traveling around Michigan making friends and playing music for anyone that will listen. They are a 4 piece band (banjo, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass), and take great pride in the effort they have made to learn how to play authentic, traditional bluegrass music while cultivating creativity through original vocal and instrumental songwriting. Their first release "The Flatbellys Get 'Round" is a collection of mostly original music written by each of the respective members. The recording showcases their tight rhythms and emphasis on melody-oriented playing. Although Michigan is not the first region that comes to mind when someone mentions bluegrass, these young flatbellys have certainly done their homework, and are eager to share their studies with the world.
