The Crazed Mugs have a sound that's old but new — familiar, yet exotic. The band blends hapa haole, contemporary Hawaiian, rock, and clever lyrics into a cocktail of musical delight. The group operates out of the Tampa Bay, Florida area. The Mug's first album, "My Mug Collection" was independently released in 2005 by the band's label, Orange Seal Entertainment. It was recorded at Path of Palms Studio in Brandon, Florida. Original songs were composed by pablus and performed by himself, Koka Nut, Rustiki, and the Haole Kats!!! (Kanekila, Jumpin’ Josh, and Joe the Beachcomber). Special guests included famed bassist Jeff Berlin on "My Mug Collection." The album also had five cover songs, "Hawaiian Hula Eyes," "Wait For Me," "Beautiful Kauai," "Henehene Ko Aka," and "Mele Kalikimaka." The CD was nominated for a Hawaiian Music Award that year. Rustiki passed away quietly at his home in November 2005. The band was broken and set music aside for awhile. In early 2007, Ken Kanaka saw his friend, pablus, at a Jake Shimabukuro concert in Tampa. pablus and Russ had played with Ken once during International Tiki Day at Clancy's in Bradenton and had enjoyed the meeting and Ken's pop stylings on the uke.. pablus casually asked "...wanna be a mug?" and Kanaka gave the aloha smile. The Mugs began the process of writing new material, some of which was performed in the summer of that year at the Hukilau event in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the great Mai Kai restaurant. On March 20, 2008, a remastered version of "My Mug Collection" was released to online music stores worldwide (to be available before July of 2008). The cover features new artwork, "Sunset Tiki," by the artist Flounder. Most of the cover songs, except for "Henehene Ko Aka," were left off the release due to licensing issues. The Crazed Mugs' second album: Find Forbidden Island, was released on October 15th, 2011 and features lush arrangements framing the catchy uke-based tunes. Read more on Last.fm.
