British 1960s girl-group The Chantelles evolved from the Lana Sisters, the trio that was Dusty Springfield's first group in the late 1950s. A couple of years after Dusty's departure to join The Springfields, the Lanas relaunched themselves with a hipper new image. They were led by Iris (Riss) Chantelle, who seemed to change her surname to suit whichever group she was in at the time - previously she was known as Iris Lana. The other two members were Sandra Orr and Jay Adams. The Chantelles recorded seven singles between 1965 and 1968, making their record debut with "I Want That Boy" whicht was an instant success. On the strength of this success The Chantelles were invited to appear in the film "Dateline Diamonds" together with Kiki Dee and The Small Faces, which was filmed around the Radio London ship where "I Want That Boy" topped the charts. Next came a television series with Jimmy Logan, and TV appearances with Acker Bilk. With their fast moving and exciting act, they played some of the leading venues throughout Europe, making numerous television appearances en route singing soul, gospel and pop. The Chantelles also appeared with many stars in concert including tours with Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, The Beatles and many more. The Chantelles went out with a bang in the form of their last single, the cult psyche gem "Out Of My Mind", which was only released in Germany and the US. After the Chantelles broke up in the late '60s, Riss Chantelle stayed in the music business as a publisher, having formed Chantelle Music. Read more on Last.fm.
