Dadon was born in a monastery in Lhasa, Tibet, in 1967. As a child in the early 1980s, she was trained in classical music in a music school in Beijing, China. Upon graduating in 1985, Dadon returned to Tibet and joined the Tibetan Singing and Dance Group, where she shared her many talents and began to sing professionally. In the late 1980s, Dadon was the first Tibetan to enter and win numerous singing competitions in China. She recorded and sold millions of albums in Tibet and China during the late 1980's and early 1990's. In 1992, Dadon fled Tibet to India, eventually coming to the U.S. and her present home of Connecticut. Since that time, she has performed at national and international venues and events, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and various Tibet benefit concerts. She has performed with such music luminaries as Philip Glass, Arlo Guthrie, Patti Smith, YoYo Ma, Natalie Merchant, Ritchie Havens, and Sheryl Crow. A highly regarded composer and song-writer, Dadon composed songs for – and starred in – the critically-acclaimed film Windhorse. She also wrote the soundtrack for the documentary Vajra Sky, and the theme music of the film Samsara. Read more on Last.fm.
