This page is for "The Blue Eyed Devils," NOT the similarly named hate band "Blue Eyed Devils." Direct from their Myspace Page: "Blues, Acoustic, positive, open-minded, From sunny-smart-tolerant-liberal San Francisco Bay Area. So You know who We are and if you are looking for a different; although similarly named band that may not share these attributes listed here you are in the wrong place... The Blue Eyed Devils Band from The San Francisco Bay Area began as a collaboration between Chris Cotton (Guitar and VOX), Brendan Wheatley (Harmonica and VOX) and Hamilton Rott (Fiddle) in the middle of 1996 in Mountain View, California. Sharing a love of traditional Americana music, particularly traditional African-American music from the south of the 1920's and 30's. The small trio performed a couple shows in the downtown coffee shops and at some parties at Stanford University those first couple months. Things changed quickly though as Hamilton left to pursue a career in Chinese Medicine and Wheatley and Cotton briefly added Andrew Popanicolow (Drums) and Mike Szabo (Bass) to the mix in the summer of 1996. At the end of that summer with Szabo traveling to attend Rhode Island School of Design, and Popanicolow attending University of California Santa Barbara brought the band to the current members most people associate with, Justin Markovits (Drums), and Brett Klynn (bass). After 1996 The Blue Eyed Devils went on to become a very popular act on the San Francisco Peninsula and later in the greater Bay Area. They toured with The North Mississippi All-stars, and performed at the 2003 San Francisco Blues Festival to huge crowds. During the period the band was in the current configuration they released two full length original records: Hard Luck Town(2001, out of print) and The Legend of Shorty Brown(2003). The Legend of Shorty Brown was nominated for a California Music Award(Bammie) in 2004. Currently all members are involved in their own solo projects.
