Tenhi is a Finnish band formed in 1996, playing neofolk music which is truly the only one of its kind; a very minimalistic music with melancholic, cold and dark atmospheres from Finland. Somehow, the rhythm of instrument lines follow the customs of modern rock music. The melodical instruments and vocals are however very heavily folk-influenced. The basic instrumentation of the band consists of acoustic guitar, bass and drums. Frequent additional instruments include piano, violin, viola and flute and less frequent didgeridoo, mouth harp, harmonium, cello, udu and synthesizer. The lyrics are written in Finnish, and they follow the musical themes perfectly; esoteric moods, withdrawn feelings, fragility and the mystical side of nature. The combination of visual arts and music came fluently as all members are into visual arts. The music and the visualizing fulfill each other to bring out the wanted auras. The word "Tenhi" is an old Finnish word meaning a village elder, wise old man or seer. Corecrew : Tyko Saarikko - vocals, piano, harmonium, synth, guitar, percussions, didgeridoo, mouth harp, udu; Ilmari Issakainen - drums, piano, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, back vocals. The corecrew writes all the material and is in charge of the cover artwork as well. Additional musicians : Inka Eerola - violin; Janina Lehto - flute, vocals; Tuukka Tolvanen - vocals, back vocals, guitar; Jaakko Hilppö - back vocals, bass guitar; Paula Rantamäki - violin.
