Tango Orkestret

Tango Orkestret is a well established Copenhagen, DK-based quintet playing modern tango. The band has been performing since 1989. The repertoire includes many of Astor Piazolla's works, but the group has also added their own compositions, and influences go beyond tango proper. The group cites as influences jazz, rock, samba, salsa and oriental music. The current line up includes Kaare Munkholm (Marimba, vibes) Henrik Sveidahl (Saxophones, bass clarinet) Jesper Lundgaard (Double Bass) Palle Windfeldt (Guitar) Kristian Jørgensen (Violin) Until recently, the lineup did not include the double bass, but a percussionist Carl Quist Møller. The bass lines would often be played by either the guitar or bass clarinet. As a tango group without a bandoneon, the group has a somewhat unusual instrumentation, but the saxophone and clarinet add a very distinct and fresh flavor to the quintet. Tango Orkestret has been very active as a live band, playing around Denmark. The band has received critical appraise and its members several awards. http://www.tangoorkestret.dk/ Read more on Last.fm.
