Sub Space aka Julien & Gonzague (Mirage records - Mission6277/Axis) Julien and Gonzague are from Lyon. They first met each other at the age of 11 at school, and since that time they have made their way together, especially in music. They discovered the world of night clubs where they used go every Saturday afternoon as they were very young to dance on a new music: acid music. Their funk and black vision of music (James Brown, Georges Clinton, Zapp, Public Enemy…) will get richer with an electronic shade. DJs since 1992, they have mastered various styles : Detroit techno, pumping, groovy, and minimal techno. They are capable of creating an atmosphere and of setting fire to the dancefloor wherever they go, from the “Rex Club” in Paris to “Tresor” in Berlin, including the “Womb” in Tokyo as well as big festivals like the “Big Chill” in Birmingham, “Nature One” in Germany. In 96, Julien & Gonzague made their first live-act under the nickname 4iQ, next to Carl Cox at “Futuria 96”, or even next to Laurent Garnier at “Live Experience”. Today, they play under the nickname Sub Space aka Julien & Gonzague. All their lives are composed with the same energy than their DJ sets : putting themselves in danger, their challenge is to rearrange their tracks in real time, thus offering a total control and an absolute freedom with respect to the evolution of the live-act in while facing the dancefloor. Jeff Mills did not doubt it one second : after having made them sign their first maxi on “Mission6277/Axis records”, he introduced them in Japan during his residence at the “Womb Club” in Tokyo for the concept “Contact Special” for, which Julien & Gonzague prepared an exclusive live-act, different from the ones they usually do, based on the feeling and emotions one may feel during a journey towards Mars, searching for an extra-terrestrial life. Jeff Mills about Sub Space : (http://blog.excite.co.jp/jeff05) “Their live had all that you could imagine: Suspense, mystery, warmth, maturity, aggression, class and other feelings. They did a great job.” 2006/2007 : in parallel with their numerous releases with labels such as Minimalizm (Chicago), Token (Belgium), Filtered Vision (Germany), they celebrated the tenth anniversary of their label Mirage Records at the Rex club in Paris. 2008 Album “The Message”.
