Squallor is a parodistic-demential band from Italy formed in 1974, consisting of narrator Alfredo Cerruti (a powerful A&R man also known for his relationship with Mina), singer/songwriter Antonio Savio (d. 2004) and songwriters Daniele Pace (d. 1985) and Giancarlo Bigazzi. With their 1973 debut album Troia they became an overnight sensation, improvising surreal stories over carefully-arranged orchestral pieces. The formula was repeated on their subsequent 13 albums (the most recent of which appeared in 1994), with an increasing amount of profanity in the lyrics and references to famous songs in the music.
