Spy Glass Blue is a project that involved Scaterd Few front man Allan Aguirre. They've been around since 1996, but haven't released anything recently with band essentially breaking up in 2004. Featuring deep post-punk vocals, clearly in the style of Joy Division or The Smiths. The music is also a throwback to the alt rock, late 80s sound - strong catchy guitars riffs over a rich beat and back ground vocals substituting for synthesizer or keyboards. Think Art of Noise gone new wave punk. The musicianship on this album is so precise it's mesmerizing just like that featured on Scaterd Few's Sin Disease release. While the music is complex in texture, the melodies proceed in straightforward catchy riffs that can't be forgotten. Adding the keyboard work of Aphorism's Josh Pyle brings a haunting connection to track without obscuring the funky bass whacking of River Tunnell, polyrhythmic percussion of Kris Rosentrater and the amazingly complex guitar ofKane Kelly/bandmember]. This is a criminally overlooked band, stretching the Scaterd Few sound into directions nobody could see coming. Official site: http://www.spyglassblue.com/ Read more on Last.fm.
