SMOOTH ACE is an a cappella singing group from Japan. It was started by Hiroko Shigezumi (重住ひろこ) and Makoto Okamura (岡村玄), who met after joining a singing club as students at Waseda University. They founded their own group together soon after, which went through several name changes (Gandhi, Momocrobic) and member changes (including The Gospellers member Tetsuya Murakami) before arriving at their current name in 1998. The group was particularly active during the years 1999-2004, and as SMOOTH ACE has had as many as four members. Former members were Shin'ya Hira (平慎也) and Maki Lee (李眞姫). Both left the group in December 2004. Currently, there are two members (Shigezumi and Okamura; both sing, Shigezumi composes music and Okamura writes lyrics). Though still actively recording, they are more devoted to live performances, both as SMOOTH ACE with guest artists and as collaborators with other artists. Read more on Last.fm.
