Simón Díaz

Simón Díaz (August 8, 1928 – February 19, 2014), was a Venezuelan folk singer and composer. His work celebrates the traditions of one of Venezuela's most popular music genres; 'música llanera'. He is considered one of the most important Latin American musicians and his songs have been covered by artists of the size of the Gipsy Kings, Devendra Banhart, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Plácido Domingo, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, and Juan Gabriel among others. Among his most popular songs are Caballo Viejo, Luna de Margarita, El Becerrito, etc. Simón Díaz is known worldwide as the author of Caballo Viejo, which appears on the 1980 album Caballo Viejo.
