Who is Shaun Verreault? More than the credited glory of "Band Member #1" in the movie The Recruit or a man helping the people of Canada rock out thanks to appearances on television shows such as Rock Camp and Hockeyville, he is a man in love with music. Often recognised as the guitarist and primary vocalist for Canada's Wide Mouth Mason, Shaun Verreault's musical life alongside his band finds himself in the role of a modern-day troubadour, putting a life's worth of observations, memories, and thoughts into songs that need to be heard. As a man without his band, his ties to Wide Mouth Mason's roots build a strong basis for his solo acoustic work, with a few tracks on his solo CD being familiar to his fans from Wide Mouth Mason as stripped-down tracks from Wide Mouth Mason's song catalogue where the essence of solo is defined musically as a man. His guitar. And the words the man sings. Revelling in the feel of tracks recorded off the floor as experienced in part through the recording of Wide Mouth Mason's most recent studio release, Shot Down Satellites, Shaun takes the experience to its barest bones and manages to capture a bit of the elusive live vibrancy that is too often too hard to immortalise on recording tape by recording each of the songs from the daggerlip sketches off the floor, in one take... and leaving the songs as whatever they came to be.
