Armed with a delicious blend of delicate piano lines and biting lyrics, Pam Shaffer’s new album “It Is Happening Again” is packed with sweeping emotion and evocative stories. Pam is a singer of lullabies sprung from a sunken pirate ship, a pixie with a haunting voice, nimble fingers, and a killer shoe collection. A rare LA native, she has always had a taste for the eccentricities of life, sporting her great aunt’s costume jewelry to school as a child while delighting in a musical backdrop of Chopin, folk tunes and the requisite pop of the 80’s. Her debut album, “As We Are,” was released in 2010 and is based on the diaries of Anais Nin. After her unconventional choice to write a concept album about the life of a controversial author, Pam turned her pen inward and drew out the tales we sometimes prefer to hide. She performed the majority of the album in her living room, layering her beloved piano with marxophone, organ, autoharps and omnichords. With the addition of violins, drums and guitar, Pam’s songs sprung to life and took on entities and flavors entirely their own. It Is Happening Again is a reminder to follow that which we love the most before we leave this world. Pam’s music stands solidly in line with the work of artists such as Regina Spektor, Florence And The Machine, Joanna Newsom and The Dresden Dolls. Pam can often be seen around LA playing with her band, Pam Shaffer and the Witching Hour, and as a member of several LA bands. Read more on Last.fm.
