One Day International formed in Dublin in early 2007 and immediately set about writing and recording their debut album, eschewing the live circuit in favour of developing the band inside the recording studio. They did however take time out and accept an invitation to open for Broken Social Scene and Stars leading lady, Amy Millan earlier this year. The nationwide tour saw them air a set of songs they're working on with producer, Brian Crosby from BellX1 and of which they say "they're very happy to take great time and care over." They have also recently recorded an alternate version of Aliens, the song that the band's singer, Matt Lunson, wrote and that Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy sang for "The Cake Sale" project in aid of Oxfam's Make Trade Fair Campaign. The Cake Sale was released in Ireland in November 2006 and has now achieved double platinum sales and has raised over €200 000 for the campaign. The new version of the song is being given away as a free download for the American release of The Cake Sale on October 16th on Yeproc Records. Having now almost completed their own album, the band have once again taken some time out to tour and have recently completed support slots with Richard Hawley, Cathy Davey and Swedish band Taken By Trees as well as participating in The Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin and the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. The band are now also confirmed for an extensive Irish tour with Josh Ritter in November and December. A self-titled E.P. has been released to coincide with these live appearances and the album, which "they've found a good home for", is expected March 2008. Read more on Last.fm.
