New Tango Orquesta

New Tango Orquesta, who have become well known in underground circles, for their unique music and their focused performances, have been critically acclaimed all over the world as the "hope" of new tango. Five young musicians playing bandoneon, violin, piano, cello, double bass and electric guitar constitute a unique sound using freshly made compositions. Their three albums have amazed critics worldwide. The latest record "Bestiario" was released in the spring of 2005, were nominated for a Swedish Grammy award and like New Tango Orquestas’s earlier releases, received startling reviews. Among other countries, NTO has toured Russia, Germany, Turkey, Ireland, Argentine, Uruguay, China and Luxembourg. The group has also composed and recorded soundtracks to films such as "Sketches of Frank Gehry" by Sidney Pollack and the screen adaptation of Swedish author Henning Mankell's novel "The return of the dancing master", produced by the Swedish public service broadcaster. NTO has also created music for numerous dance- and drama productions. The music has got its origin in "Nuevo tango", the genre Astor Piazzolla created in the 20th century by mixing tango, Baroque music and jazz. From these roots the NTO makes innovative excursions as well as exploring and animating the genre. They refurbish the new tango, go deep in improvisations and tickle the senses with equilibristic Baroque melodies. They beat taut tango, dynamic diversity and independent-progressions into the music and make it into a game, a cry and heartbeating love. The music speaks in exaggerated metaphors and does not back off from what's absolutely real. * Johanna Dahl – cello * Livet Nord – violin * Josef Kallerdahl – double bass * Per Störby – bandoneon * Peter Grahn – electric guitar * Thomas Gustavsson – piano Read more on Last.fm.
