Drums, Bass and technical sequences, Thomas Hansen a.k.a Nasty Genius, a dark and lethal music producer revealed his insane passion and flare for the genre through his sound track “Rock Hard Facial”. An exhilarating and adrenaline manufacturing performance by Thomas Hansen inspired one of his good friends, Benjamin Curtin, to don him the nickname “Nasty Genius”. Hansen was inspired by drum’n’bass in the massive underground music culture of his homeland New Zealand, where top UK music artists would often come and perform on their international tours. New Zealand is known to get into a variety of music genres from all over the world, this environment instilled Nasty Genius with his thirst to obtain musical powers and high octane beats. Music is not just about creating sequences, anyone can obtain those skills with practice, but to create sequences which make the earth shake as if a tsunami has fallen from the sky requires that unique hell man. Listen to the songs, they speak for themselves, Nasty Genius will have you out of control and coming back for more. It’s an art to sequence drum beats smoothly whilst mixing it up with brutal bass but perfectionist Nasty Genius pulls it off with sweet pulsating melodrama, his fresh techno beats have people transfixed, engrossed and pushing the replay button, there is no wonder why he is gaining fame worldwide. His multi-national fame is leaving a deep effect on his music fans, hearing the songs once has them hooked. The music that Nasty Genius creates is reformed drum and bass, he has been known to spend lengthy periods of time upon minute details, which he claims to love doing. He says he searches for gaps in his songs where he can weave something special into it. He is passionate about the process and hope his fans can appreciate the quality and technical effort he has put into it. Nasty Genius began pumping out beats in 2000 on a play station at the age of 13. His sister’s boyfriend introduced him to drum and bass when he was 14. From that point on Nasty was hooked, he started getting into heavier sounds like Technical Itch. When he was 19 he scored his first deck and mixer and starting teaching himself, and writing songs. His first DAW was Fruity, he moved on to Logic and eventually settled with Cubase. Nasty Genius’ rise to admiration from fans started to rise whilst performing with his manager at Ammunition Recordings, the label ‘Jon Coffey’ successfully unleashed his performances to the masses. By 2007 Hansen was breaking out his bullet speed beats across NZ, teaming up with other talents such as Michael West and Levon Maedera a.k.a Sick Cycle . Nasty Genius kept fine tuning his performance which set him up for the success he is now relishing. His success with Ammunition Recordings lead to hook ups with Dangerous New Age and Krypled Brain Recording, from where he went on to launch the music album “Move Music” assisted by his friend Jackson Darlow, owner of Broken Beats. It was not so hard for Hansen to promote his work; he also started an electro house project with the help of “Yuhei Kubo Boto”, an electro artist out of New Zealand. “BO” was taken from Yuhei’s last name and “TO” was from Hansen’s first name, they were quite an act. Later on, Hansen released a three track EP “Squid Eats Bear” with “BreakZhead”, a Russian label manager of Subtribe Records. The second EP “Chichen Grinder” was released soon afterwards and then the third EP “Tentacle Wounds” followed. Hansen is also engaged in another project with the name “Ngen”, which is short for Nasty Genius. He is a born entertainer and works for his listeners, consistently providing heightened energy levels whether in the form of reece, drums, rise or any other element. Hansen has also performed many solo performances in Australia. Aswell as winning remix competition for King Kapisi single “Super Human” he has also recorded with the rapper “Davie Darko” from NSW. Hansen recorded an album “Scalliwaq Pop”, where the lead vocalist was “Joseph Paul McGuigan” from “Ground Components”. Four songs were produced out of that album , Joseph’s Album “Daylight”, Captain Calloway, Power in the Fusebox, and a remake of God My Pal were co-produced with the lead singer of “Shoot the Sun”, Eamon Stewart.
