Manger Musikklag

Manger Musikklag is a brass band from Norway, situated at Radøy in the western part of the country. The brass band was founded in 1922 and is one of the oldest bands in Norway. Manger Musikklag is a champion section band, and has won the Norwegian Nationals seven times, and are concidered to be one of the best brass bands in Norway. Manger Musikklag has been notorious commisioners of new music for brass band since the 80's, when conductor Michael Antrobus came over from Britain. Many of the works has been recorded by Manger Musikklag and can be bought on the internet. In September 2009 they even commisioned an entire opera from reknown opera composer Glenn Erik Haugland. "Hypermusikal" was the title and involved the band, eight singers and a pianist/actor. The opera was about the members of the band, and how they continue to sacrifice all their spare time to play music, what drives them, and their thoughts about music in general. "Hypermusikal" recived great reviews in the papers! Besides the regular concerts and competitions, Manger Musikklag has their own music festival. The BrassWind festival is an annual event celebrating contemporary music, and each year various soloists, ensembles, Wind- and Brass Bands are invited to perform at the festival. The key goal is to increase interest and awareness around contemporary Brass- and Wind Band music, promoting Norwegian contemporary music especially. Read more on Last.fm.
