Manchester Camerata is committed to using the inspirational power of live music to transform lives and celebrates its unique position as a chamber orchestra to deliver this in the twenty first century. Creativity and energy are the hallmarks of Camerata’s work and reflect the spirit of its home city, Manchester, where the orchestra is in residence at The Bridgewater Hall and at the Royal Northern College of Music. The orchestra’s versatility also enables it to bring live music to a wide range of communities across the Northwest and beyond. Camerata concerts and learning work are both motivated by the pursuit of artistic excellence. Ideas from both strands of work flow freely to inform and influence an approach which is characterised by intimacy, immediacy and passion. Douglas Boyd, Manchester Camerata’s Music Director since 2001, recently started recording a live Beethoven Symphony cycle with the orchestra, to be completed in 2011. Nicholas Kraemer, Camerata’s Permanent Guest Conductor and Baroque specialist has been making music with the orchestra for over 25 years, and Gordan Nikolitch, Leader of the LSO, has been Principal Guest Director since 2006. Since June 2007 Manchester Camerata has been developing a unique musical partnership with the RNCM, the first of its kind in the UK. The programme of joint activity provides vital learning and experience opportunities for the next generation of musicians and complements both the orchestra’s concert and learning work.
