If Heart and Joan Jett had a baby and sent it to boarding school with Florence and the Machine you'd get a hard-rocking band with killer vocals called Lily Sparks! First timers are never quite sure what to expect when they see a Lily Sparks show but after a few seconds it’s pretty clear: They rock. Flanked by glitter guitars that alternate between crunch and wail, the singer’s got a set of pipes that can go from fragility to fury in a heartbeat. This band plays hard-rocking, toe-tapping songs that’ll make you want to shout and sing along. Lead vocalist Niamh (pronounced “neev”) is a vocal powerhouse brimming with passion and charisma. As a child in Ireland she sang traditional Irish songs, perfomed in choral groups and played lead roles in musical theater. She’s classically trained in voice and piano. But onstage she’s a rock diva. KG* learned the guitar by joining a punk band. She plays solid rhythm and inventive leads blending elements of punk, pop, and classic rock. She loves stars, guitars, and muscle cars. Bassist Anand (pronounced "On-in") likes to keep things simple. Growing up on a healthy diet of AC/DC, the Beatles and all things melodic, he quickly learned that it's the space in-between the notes that makes for great music. Drummer extraordinaire Mick Fumento has a degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami. When he’s not keeping time with Lily Sparks he’s a dedicated music teacher in the New Jersey School system. He also makes killer tomato sauce. The fact is, they’ve been together for about 2 years and they’ve gone from playing a couple of acoustic shows in bars to playing at the Taubertal Music Festival in Germany where Niamh won the award for Best Vocalist. They recently toured in London and Ireland earning praise and new fans for both their electric and acoustic performances. Check out their debut EP, Cooper Cobra, and discover why Women of Substance Radio called them “a tight band following in the footsteps of Heart and 4 Non Blondes who knows how to ROCK. These girls write great songs filled with melodic and instrumental hooks. Lead vocalist Niamh packs power and emotion in her delivery. The signature guitar licks grab listeners from the first note of the song and draw them into the experience that is Lily Sparks.” Read more on Last.fm.
