Kirsti Sparboe

Norwegian singer and actress (b. December 7th 1946). Sparboe is well known for her Norwegian cover versions of songs by The Beatles, Petula Clark, Burt Bacharach as well as several Eurovision songs. She had a breakthrough in Germany in 1968 which lasted until she withdrew from the German market in 1972. After that her focus was mainly on her Norwegian acting career, as well as some successful recordings during the 70's. Sparboe has ten national participations in The Eurovision Song Contest. She has represented Norway three times in the international final, in 1965, 1967, and 1969. She would have represented Norway in the 1968 contest as well, but the song was judged too closely related to a Cliff Richard song, and she was disqualified. Kirsti Sparboe has a powerful, yet easy-get-going «Broadway-voice». But she differs from most such singers in that she can also bring intimacy to the table if it is needed. She had a small comeback in the Norwegian national Eurovision-show in January 2008. As a celebrated artist she sang her old hit «Oj oj oj så glad jeg skal bli» together with a choir of 150 during the pause of the programme. Read more on Last.fm.
