Kiev cuando nieva are a Spanish folk-pop band from Huesca, Zaragoza. They trace their influences and resemblances to Sparklehorse, the Beachwood Sparks, The Incredible String Band and The Band as of "Music from Big Pink". In the latter part of the 1990’s Javier Aquilue and Antxon Corcuera met at the Fine Arts Faculty in Cuenca, when they both worked at the college's radiostation. Kiev cuando nieva (with Juan Carlos Roldan as the drummer) cut their first recording at the station's studio lab. They were contacted by a well known national record label, but due to a series of mishaps the EP’s debut was endlessly delayed, and eventually left aside. During the following years, the members collaborated in a series of music initiatives such as Tresestrellas, and the “Kiev project” was put on stand by. Yet, during this period of time, the members continued to compose songs which they registered periodically during brief and scarce meetings with the help from drummer Alberto Larraz, whom was later replaced by Carlos Aquilue who continues with the band to this day. At last, AA records in association with the production company El ojo vago decide to launch into the market an LP comprised of a selection of new songs recorded for the occasion and produced by Rafael Martínez del Pozo (La JR).
