Pioneer Swamp Pop singer born Joseph Barrios, Jr in Cut Off, Louisiana (13 July, 1939). Found national success under Huey P. Meaux's guidance, but suffered from the fast rock n roll lifestyle that led to drugs and alcohol (he also pioneered the rock star phenomena of wrecking hotel rooms and throwing television sets in the pool). Joe Barry went back to Cut Off and worked for a while in the oil fields while trying to battle his addictions. After finding religion he became a preacher. He attempted a few comebacks, recorded some great hits, but never achieved the level of success he had before. Joe Barry died in Cut Off, La 31 August, 2004. Read more on Last.fm.
