Jean Martinon (10 January 1910-1 March 1976) was a French conductor and composer born in Lyons, France. He studied composition with Albert Roussel and conducting with Charles Munch, to whom he acted as Assistant with the London Philharmonic in 1946. Later he conducted many world-class orchestras in Europe, Israel, and the United States. He composed four symphonies and an opera, as well as concertos and chamber music. He died in Paris.
