Combining popular and classical styles, Jane Leslie’s music has captured the attention of a wide variety of audiences, and has been honored with several ASCAP Awards and Meet the Composer grants. A native New Yorker, Jane Leslie began studying piano at age six, with a talent and love of music that eventually led to piano studies at the Juilliard School. She holds Bachelor and Masters degrees from Juilliard, as well as a Doctoral degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Her original music is a blend of popular and classical styles that has attracted a wide variety of listeners. Inspired by a Dream . . . Jane Leslie’s first album, Dreamsongs has a unique story behind it -- an unusual experience in which a beautiful new melody appeared to her in a dream. "It was a vivid dream with a melody that I could not forget." This melody became the theme of her composition, Dreamsong, and inspired her to compose the other piano music in the album. Dreamsongs has been featured on the Internet and in broadcasts in the U.S. and abroad. Southampton Sunset is her latest album of original piano solos with melodies that speak directly to the heart of the listener. The diverse styles include upbeat pieces, dramatic ballads, gentle new-age sounds, and soft jazz. Two videos have been produced, featuring her performance of this music. The videos, Joy and Southampton Sunset, have been shown as a special presentation at her concerts. With elements of both popular and classical styles, Jane Leslie's music has been performed in concert halls as well as coffeehouses and outdoor festivals. Her concerts feature her original music, and sometimes include special guest artists or classical pieces, to create interesting and innovative programs. In addition to many piano pieces, her compositions include music for voice, strings, woodwinds, percussion, and various ensembles.
